The Weekend Road Trip

Over the weekend, I rode about 100+ kilometers on my bicycle. I never really log my distance covered before, and wow, that was great knowing how far you have biked. It somehow inspires you knowing you can cover those distances.

Last weekend my high school batch mate sent us a Facebook message inviting us (other batch mates) for a weekend ride to Danao City and back. From Cebu City to Danao it is about 30 kilometers. Without second thoughts, I said yes. It was a great idea. Getting reunited with some of your high school batch mates over bicycling is a great and fun idea to say the least.

So we meet up at eBlock 2 at Cebu I.T. Park at 5:30 am, and set for Danao at around 6 am. There were about 6 of us. After our high school years, this is the first time our paths crossed again. Before 8 am we were already at Danao City Fish port. We indulged ourselves to some softdrinks (sugar and liquid) to replenish our energy and of course breakfast and catching up. We had grilled pork and fish....satiable taste, isn't it?

After breakfast, we did some more of catching up with and chitchats of each one's life events and even discussing the possibilities of joining in triathlons. Hahaha, seriously? Come to think of it, it is in fact a great idea, it is not about winning, it is more about the experience, the fun, and finishing the race. Who cares if you finished last, as long as you finish and had fun then it is all good. And we agreed to meet up more regularly and do some weekend cycling. Looking forward to it already.

Just over past 8 am, we started pedaling back to Cebu City. This time to each was its own. It was like, we were racing back to Cebu. I was at a disadvantage as I was riding a Mountain bike, the rest were on Road bikes. Damn, wish I have a road bike too. Now, I am motivated to have one. Should start saving for a Cervelo R3. WIDE GRIN! Drool..

We logged about 70 kms that Saturday. Went home, had some banana milk shake and green leafy salad with tuna for lunch. Took a power nap and suddenly, out of nowhere, my mountain biking buddy sent me an SMS asking if I was up for a Sunday ride. Well, of course I would want to go trail biking. After my afternoon nap, instead of going to buy some groceries, I cleaned my bike. Washed it with soap, cleared all the mud and put some lube and wipe it thoroughly until shiny. Getting really excited for another round of biking, and this time to my familiar playground, the trails.

The next morning, woke up early, again, excited for the uphill climb and the joy of downhill afterwards. Meet up with my biking buddy at 6 am and headed straight for the mountain trails of Cebu City. A few people know, but there are actually a lot of mountain trails that you can go to at Cebu.

This time it was a short route but it was uphills as well. We were pedaling leisurely and before we started to climb uphills, we stopped for some Gatorade and sandwich at 7/11. Neither of us had breakfast, so need to fuel ourselves before climbing.
After the short stop, we started climbing leisurely. No one was in a hurry and this was no race. We were enjoying our chitchats and the scenery (no pictures). It was a steep climb and the summer heat was scorching our back. So for the second time, we stop for another round of Gatorade at a small store at Budlaan (a mountain barangay of Cebu City).

There, after we finished our refreshments we just continued to sit by and continued to talk about anything under the sun (entirely about bicycles, mountain biking, and trail running). We were enjoying the view, and counting the bikers that came and go pass by. After a few more mountain bikers passed, we decided to start downhills and headed home. All in all we logged only 32.7 kilometers that day. Quite short considering I already done 70kms the day before. But this time it was mountain biking, with uphill climbs and downhills. Wheeew.

So in all, over the weekend I logged a total of 102.7 kms. Looking at the figures, it gives you the motivation to go the distance once you start logging your biking routes. (Riding my bike to work only covers about 6km.)

With that experience, it just shows how much I love to bike, may it be on the road or on the trails. Not just that! I cannot stop thinking of a new R3 to ride on. I want a new road bike!

Well, someday, I'll buy myself a new R3 or Tarmac perhaps. So while waiting, I'll hold on for that dream continue pedaling!
